March 22, 2002

More than 500 invited guests, amongst them military, political, industrial and journalistic representatives from around the world, saw the presentation of the first serial-built UHT Tiger helicopter at Eurocopter in Donauwörth on March 22, 2002.
Eurocopter received orders for 80 multi-purpose helicopters of this type from each the German and French gouvernment.
In Germany the first serial-built Tiger will be handed over in december 2002 to the German "Heeresflieger" (Army Flying Corps) at Bückeburg. After the pilot training, from 2004 on, the first 48 attack helicopters will be stationed at Fritzlar and Roth.
The first export success for the Tiger was an order placed by the Australian gouverment for 22 helicopters of this type.
Besides the Tiger also the new transport helicopter NH 90 and various civil helicopter types are produced at Eurocopter in Donauwörth.

The roll-out ceremony of the first serial build Tiger inside one of the hangars could only be seen by the invited guests, but the following flying display of the Tiger PT5R prototype showed the extraordinay capabilities to both the invited guest and those standing outside the fence. The flying display was introduced by a formation flight of the Tiger PT5R prototype and the NH 90 PT3 prototype.

Already early that morning a number of high ranked guests flew in by helicopter, comprising various Eurocopter BO 105 PAH1 and VBH and two Bell UH1-D.

The guests couldn't escape the stormy weather on this day, but at least the rain stopped until the flying display was over, before starting again.
